Moise Bombito Out of Canada's World Cup Squad

Canada's World Cup aspirations have been dealt a significant blow with the removal of star center back Moise Bombito from the roster.

The 24-year-old defender, a key player for Jesse Marsch's squad, was deemed not fit enough to contribute to the team's campaign this summer. Bombito had been battling with a persistent leg injury.

Bombito originally sustained a broken leg in October 2025. While he had recovered sufficiently to participate in training and warm-up friendlies, he continued to experience leg soreness.

His limited involvement, playing only 30 minutes across two separate matches, led the Canadian medical staff to make the difficult decision to prioritize his long-term health over his participation in the tournament.

This setback comes at a critical time for Canada, who are already grappling with an ongoing injury crisis. Several other key players, including Alphonso Davies and Marcelo Flores, are also facing fitness concerns, adding to the challenges for the co-hosts.

In terms of replacements, Vancouver Whitecaps defender Ralph Priso has reportedly been identified as a potential addition to the squad. Furthermore, Fulham's Luc de Fougerolles is considered a strong candidate to step into Bombito's place in the starting lineup.

The team will now have to adapt their defensive strategies and find new solutions as they prepare to face their World Cup opponents.

Canada is scheduled to commence their World Cup campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12, a match that will now be approached with a reshaped defensive unit.
