Vitor Pereira Demands PGMOL Meeting Over Handball Rule Clarity After Controversial Man Utd Goal

Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira has called for an urgent meeting with the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) to seek clarity on the handball rule.

This demand comes in the wake of a contentious goal scored by Matheus Cunha during Nottingham Forest's 3-2 defeat against Manchester United.

The goal in question, Bryan Mbeumo's second of the match which put United ahead 2-1, has drawn significant criticism from Pereira. He firmly believes the goal should have been ruled out due to a handball in the build-up.

Despite an extended review by VAR official Peter Bankes, referee Michael Salisbury ultimately allowed the goal to stand. The justification provided was that the handball was accidental.

However, Pereira vehemently disagrees with this interpretation. He argued that the contact with the ball clearly provided Mbeumo with an unfair advantage, and that the ball was, in fact, controlled with his hands.

This incident has amplified Pereira's existing frustrations with what he perceives as inconsistencies in Premier League officiating. He is advocating for a summit involving managers and officials to foster a better, shared understanding of the complex rules.

Adding to the controversy, former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has also voiced his disapproval of the decision. Neville described the VAR intervention as 'clueless' and questioned the rationale behind allowing the goal.

The debate highlights ongoing challenges in interpreting and applying the handball rule consistently, leading to significant debate and calls for greater transparency and uniformity in officiating.
