Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has stepped down as manager of Serie B side Cesena after a brief tenure of just three months.
Cole, who took on his first head coaching position in March, cited a 'change in strategy' as the primary reason for his departure following discussions with the club's leadership.
During his time at the helm, Cole oversaw eight matches, achieving only a single victory. The team's record included three draws and four losses, a return that evidently did not align with the club's evolving plans.
In his statement, Cole conveyed his appreciation for the players and staff at Cesena, acknowledging their efforts during his tenure. However, he emphasized that the divergence in strategic direction made his continued role untenable.
Reports suggest that the challenges Cole faced were compounded by a language barrier and a degree of skepticism from some within the club, including players and sections of the fanbase.
Prior to his stint in Italy, Cole had accumulated coaching experience in various capacities. He served in coaching roles at Derby County, Everton, and Birmingham City, as well as with the England U21 national team.
This short-lived Italian adventure marks the end of his first senior management role, and Cole is now reportedly looking for his next opportunity in the coaching world.
The abrupt end to his time with Cesena leaves Cole searching for a new path as he continues to build his coaching career, having had a brief but eventful experience in Italian football.
