Leeds United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Julian Brandt, a seasoned former German international, on a free transfer this summer.
The 30-year-old attacking midfielder's contract with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund is nearing its conclusion, which would allow him to move to a new club without a transfer fee.
Brandt has enjoyed a decorated seven-year spell at Dortmund, accumulating a wealth of experience. He has made over 380 appearances in the German top flight, represented Germany 48 times, and gained considerable European football pedigree, featuring in over 80 Champions League matches.
During his tenure at Dortmund, Brandt proved to be a consistent offensive threat, contributing 57 goals and 70 assists across 307 games. His ability to operate effectively in multiple midfield roles – as an attacking midfielder, a deeper central midfielder, or even on the wings – makes him a potentially valuable asset.
This versatility aligns with Leeds United's objectives as they aim to bolster their squad following a 14th-place finish in the Premier League. The club is keen to bring in quality players to improve their standing in the league.
However, Leeds are not alone in their pursuit of the German playmaker. Reports suggest that the Elland Road club faces competition from other interested parties. Notably, at least one of these clubs is believed to be in a position to offer Champions League football, a significant draw for any player.
