Spurs Target Wharton, Dismiss Greenwood Links

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly making a strong push to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, viewing him as a key target for their midfield revamp.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi is said to be impressed by Wharton's skills in a deep-lying playmaking role, believing he can be instrumental in rebuilding the team's midfield.

This heightened interest in Wharton aligns with Tottenham's broader strategy to significantly bolster their squad, with ambitions to bring in as many as three new midfielders.

The club is also closely monitoring the situation with Joao Palhinha, whose loan spell includes an option for a permanent transfer, although Sporting CP is also reportedly keen on the player.

In contrast to their pursuit of Wharton, Tottenham have reportedly shut down any rumors connecting them with a move for Mason Greenwood. Despite earlier speculation, the club is not anticipated to make an offer for the Marseille forward.

Marseille might be open to selling Greenwood for approximately €50 million, but Tottenham appears to have no interest in acquiring him.

This strategic focus on Wharton comes as Tottenham faces challenges in acquiring other high-profile midfield targets. Both Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes have proven difficult to secure due to their high price tags and the intense competition from other clubs.

Consequently, Adam Wharton is increasingly being seen as a more realistic and attainable elite signing for Tottenham as they aim to significantly strengthen their midfield options for the upcoming season.
