USMNT center back Chris Richards sustained an ankle injury during Crystal Palace's recent match against Brentford on Sunday.
The defender, who is considered a likely starter for the upcoming World Cup, required assistance to walk off the pitch following a collision with Brentford striker Igor Thiago during stoppage time.
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed the incident, explaining that Thiago landed awkwardly on Richards' ankle, causing it to twist.
While the ankle is visibly swollen, Glasner conveyed a sense of optimism, suggesting that Richards might only require a brief period of rest, potentially just a few days, and could be available for selection again by midweek.
Richards has been a crucial player for Crystal Palace throughout the current season, accumulating 49 appearances and establishing himself as an integral part of their defensive back-three formation.
This injury concern arises at a critical juncture for the USMNT as they gear up for the World Cup.
The team's training camp is scheduled to commence at the end of May, with their opening World Cup fixture set for June 12.
Despite this setback, Richards is still anticipated to make a full recovery and be ready to participate in the tournament.
